The Peñon de Ifach in Calpe is the symbol of the Valencian Community and one of the smallest nature parks in Spain, covering 50.000 square meters and reaching a height of 332 meters.
Majestic and exceptionally beautiful, the Peñon is surrounded by various beaches with white sand and crystal clear water. Years ago, it was a reference point for mariners navigating in the waters of the Mediterranean. There are marvellous views of the coastline in both directions from its peak where you can experience nature at its best.
Hikers and nature lovers list the Peñon as a “must see” route as the impressive views of Calpe and the Mediterranean make the effort worthwhile.
The route of the lower part of the Peñon de Ifach is not difficult and can be completed by children. The path is well preserved, with a slight incline and some steps.
Nature’s sound track accompanies you along the route from some of the 80 different types of birds and it is worth a reminder that during the nesting season in May and June, the gulls can attack to defend their young if you get too close!
The second phase of the climb is more difficult and if you are not used to hiking and mountain routes, it is not recommended.
You will come across a tunnel in the mountain and from here onwards the path is not asphalted. You will come across a tunnel in the mountain and from here onwards the path is not asphalted.
